InuYasha
The Sengoku Jidai. A hanyou with dog ears pinned to a tree. A young priestess holding aa bow and arrow, after firing her Fuin no Ya(Sealing Arrows). This is the opening scene for Rumiko Takahashi's InuYasha.
Five hundred years ago in Feudal Japan the beautiful priestess Kikyou protects her village and a sacred jewel from evil youkai (demons). She meets and falls in love with a cocky, half-demon lad named InuYasha. Kikyou's purity melts the heart of InuYasha, and he too falls in love...so much so that he is willing to use the sacred jewel to become a full fledged human.
Tragically, an evil being (Naraku), who possessed the ability to change form, tricked the young couple into believing they betrayed one another. As a result of this betrayal, Kikyou perished, but not before using her enchanted arrow to impale InuYasha to a tree in a deep sleep. Before her death, Kikyou instructed her young sister, Kaede, to burn the jewel (Shikon no Tama) with her body in an attempt to keep it from falling into the wrong hands.
It is now present day...Japan.
A young high-school girl (Kagome) and her family care for an old Shinto Shrine located on their property. One fateful morning, right around the time of her fifteenth birthday, Kagome is pulled into the Shrine's well by an evil youkai and transported into the past. She arrives in feudal Japan 50 years after the tragic incident between Kikyou and InuYasha. Kagome discovers that she is the reincarnation of Kikyou, and within her body lies the Shikon Jewel.
Soon Kagome learns of the special abilities she possesses. She is able to awaken InuYasha so he may fight off the attacking demon. In the struggle, the Shikon Jewel is dislodged. Luckily the evil demon is defeated, but wait....InuYasha wants the jewel for his own bitter intentions. Good thing a now elder Kaede puts a powerful spell on a necklace around the lad's neck that lets Kagome keep him restrained with one word ...SIT.
As events unfold, Kagome accidentally shatters the valuable jewel. Even as small pieces, those shards have the ability to make demons more powerful. Now it is up to InuYasha and Kagome to find those pieces so the jewel may be rebuilt and kept away from evil once again.
